Windsurf

One-line config

Windsurf’s Cascade agent speaks MCP, so Sigil connects with one config block.

Terminal window
sigil register --print

Add the inner sigil object to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json:

~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"sigil": {
"command": "/Users/you/.sigil/bin/sigil-mcp",
"args": []
}
}
}

Or use Windsurf → Settings → Cascade → MCP Servers, which edits the same file.

Use the path register --print outputs — it points at the stable shim in ~/.sigil/bin/, which survives Node version switches and reinstalls.

Restart Windsurf. The thirteen Sigil tools appear in Cascade’s tool list.

Windsurf reads global rules from ~/.codeium/windsurf/memories/global_rules.md, and per-project rules from .windsurfrules in the repo.

~/.codeium/windsurf/memories/global_rules.md
## Sigil memory
Sigil is a persistent memory shared with every other AI agent on this machine.
- Call `prime` at the start of every conversation.
- Before answering about this project, past decisions, or my preferences,
call `search`.
- When I share a preference, decision, or constraint, call `remember` with
a short self-contained statement.
- Pass `cwd` so facts attach to this project's pod.
Windsurf has its own “Memories” feature. They coexist — Windsurf’s memories are local to Windsurf; Sigil’s are shared with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, and every other wired agent.
Terminal window
sigil doctor --deep

Then ask Cascade something only memory would know:

What did we decide about event delivery?

Tools don’t appear. Restart Windsurf; it reads mcp_config.json at startup. Validate the JSON.

The server errors. Stale shim path — sigil connect.

Tools appear but Cascade never calls them. Strengthen the global rules, especially the “before answering” line.
